After the resounding success of Theatre Nouveau’s inaugural production, The Madwoman of Chaillot – Uncensored, the company has decided that a re-imagining of AddictionSpeaks, Suzanne Ramczyk’s original theatre piece first produced in Belfast in 2019, should be their second offering. The Company feels that the piece is as current now as it was in 2019, the most recent statistics related to substance abuse in Maine and Waldo County clearly attesting to this.

The play brings to life true stories of addiction obtained from people living throughout Maine. The often heart-breaking stories, along with ones of hope and redemption, were, originally, connected with music, movement, and, sometimes, dark humor. The current “re-imagining,” AddictionSpeaks Again, a contemporary tragedy, maintains most of the stories from 2019 but has been structured, generally, in the format of Greek Tragedy. The contemporary stories of addiction find an appropriate and tragic corollary in the ancient form that relies on the profound expression of loss, grief, and, too often, injustice.

AddictionSpeaks Again, a contemporary tragedy was performed at the Basil Burwell Theatre, Court St. in Belfast at the following times:

  • October 27, 28 & November 3, 4 at 7:30pm

  • October 29 and November 5 at 2:00pm
